It Never Ends

Every day the ridiculous-meter goes higher and higher — it went to “10” a long time ago; now it’s wrapped around the peg several times — widening the gulf between reason and insanity, a distinction I can no longer overlook in the name of respectful discourse. I mean, what does it take for people who are allegedly moral and ethical to jump off the Trump train?

This is where ordinarily I would list all things this guy has done to upend convention, divide America, spread hatred, embrace autocrats, alienate our allies, and flout the law. But even if I limited the list to the last few days, it would take the next few days to compose it.

Some weeks ago I set out to have respectful discourse with what I call my pet projects — Main Street conservatives who might be receptive to something other than the Fox feed they otherwise consume.

I give up. Their idea of open-mindedness is acknowledging that Joe Biden won’t completely destroy American business, or that Kamala Harris doesn’t lie all the time, or that there might be some truth to climate change …

I’m tired of making killer, fact-based arguments which have absolutely no effect. So I’m going to call Florida Democrats to encourage them to vote (most already have), and have another Zoom meeting with my Trump-hating friends.

No minds will be changed, but I’ll feel better.
