Long-week, late-Friday, one-gummy-over-the-line ruminations, triggered by the E. Jean Carroll story …

This presidential race is getting scary. Four months ago the (reputable) polls showed Biden ahead by 8-10 points. Today it’s dead even. (I know, polls can be wrong … but a 50-50 split has the highest statistical significance.)

Bill Maher is saying Trump will win. Ditto Andrew Sullivan. Both are holding their noses.

And every time Trump is indicted or defeated, as in the case of Ms. Carroll, our favorite pussy-grabber’s numbers go up and more money rolls in.

A big part of the problem lies with the Dems. Although he’s not that much older, Biden is perceived as frail, weak, and missing a step or two. Trump is perceived as a vital leader. And the dems have done a shit job of promoting their accomplishments. I believe that just as many people hate DT but hold their noses while voting for JB as the opposite.

And while Trump’s lawyers are below par, to say the least, they are good at one thing: throwing enough shit at the fan that they gum things up. I don’t expect any verdicts before the election … and even if there are any, they will be appealed. But the point is moot: a convicted felon can indeed be president. Moot, maybe, but contestable by sub-par works-gumming shit-slingers.

And individual states trying to keep Trump off the ballot? It’s not going to succeed. Nor should it.

Are You Ready for Some Politicking?

Do candidates and their advocates “stretch the truth” in political ads? Take the case of Mazi Pilip, the GOP candidate to replace George Santos; here’s the DCCC attack ad. The Dems don’t lie about the GOP wanting to cut SS, but Pilip’s “Ten Point Plan” makes not-all-bad references to lowering taxes for the middle class (we’ve heard that before, but her support of the SALT Deduction gives a few teeth to her position). The other nine points are boilerplate BS. See for yourself.

If I could vote in that race, I’d hold my nose and vote for the other guy.
